Provaris Energy, a pioneering company in the development of green hydrogen projects, has taken a significant stride towards the advancement of hydrogen technology.

The company, through its subsidiary Provaris Norway AS, has initiated a prototype tank testing program to obtain the final Class Approval required for its innovative carrier and storage solutions. Concurrently, Provaris has forged a strategic Technology Collaboration Agreement with Prodtex AS, aiming to jointly develop a cutting-edge tank production facility in Norway dedicated to manufacturing compressed hydrogen containment tanks.

Provaris Norway AS has awarded a contract to Norwegian-based Prodtex AS for the construction and testing of a prototype hydrogen tank. This tank is specially designed to be utilized in Provaris’ proprietary H2Neo compressed gaseous hydrogen carrier and the H2Leo floating storage solution. The comprehensive prototype testing program targets completion within Q1 2024, ultimately leading to the final Class Approval. The rigorous testing phase will be carried out by SINTEF, with the final approvals granted by DNV and ABS, world-renowned classification societies and maritime industry advisors.

Simultaneously, Provaris and Prodtex have joined forces to develop an advanced, fully automated production line for manufacturing compressed hydrogen containment tanks. This innovative production facility, expected to be operational by mid-2025, will offer significant cost advantages compared to existing market solutions, positioning Provaris as a front-runner in low-cost hydrogen storage and distribution. The collaboration aims to support Provaris’ hydrogen export projects and expand its hydrogen storage solutions for onshore static storage applications.

Provaris Energy, an Australian public company, is committed to developing a portfolio of integrated green hydrogen projects for regional trade in Asia and Europe. With the establishment of Provaris Norway AS in 2022, the company has been focused on advancing hydrogen export projects from Norway and other European locations, contributing to the global efforts for sustainable energy transformation.

Prodtex AS, located on the north-west coast of Norway, brings expertise in design and construction of advanced ships and equipment, making it an ideal collaborator for Provaris’ tank production facility. SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest research institutes, will play a crucial role in conducting comprehensive testing, ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the prototype tank. DNV and ABS, renowned classification societies and technical advisors to the maritime industry, will grant the final Class approvals, assuring the highest safety and design standards.
